Debra Kahn

Debra Kahn is a reporter for Environment & Energy Publishing, based in San Francisco. She covers energy and environment policy for the West Coast and Pacific Rim, with a special focus on California. After 2.5 years in Washington, where she covered climate change, public lands and mining, among other issues, she transferred to E&E’s West Coast Bureau in 2008 to tackle more cutting-edge policy, particularly in the climate arena. She has also become something of an expert on such disparate topics as offshore drilling, oyster farming, algae biofuels and methane digesters.

Kahn has also worked for U.S. News & World Report, the Baltimore Daily Record and the Montgomery Sentinel. She got her bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Maryland, where she honed her craft as a staff writer and editor for the Diamondback. In addition to appearing in the E&E publications Greenwire and ClimateWire, her work is regularly featured on the New York Times website. Kahn lives in San Francisco and enjoys hiking, yoga and reading.
